On April 15, around 30 CSR managers attended the first lunch symposium to be held by The Green Place, Media Wise’s Corporate Responsibility programme. The  topic was leadership in CSR and the four main speakers were TNT CEO Peter Bakker, Philips’ global head of sustainability Henk de Bruin, the CEO of engineering consulting firm Witteveen + Bos, Henk Nieboer and the global head of sustainbility at Akzo Nobel, Andre Veneman. The event was held at the historic greenhouse restaurant, De Kas, which takes a sustainable approach to catering, whereby it grows vegetables on site and uses local and biological produce. The results of a CSR survey by The Green Place were revealed at the lunch and a Green Owl award was presented to the company which, in the view of respondents, had achieved the most mature status of sustainability in its policies, organisation and reputation. That company was Unilever.
